A new era for profile measurements

Profile measurements of paper and board are needed e.g. in troubleshooting, quality control of on-line measurements and product development. Nab Labs’ existing TAPIO profile meter will be completely revised until the fall of 2009.

"The sensors of our TAPIO have been well kept up over the years, this time we’re completely renewing the frame and the drives," tells product manager Outi Kari. "Web tension and speed control improve a great deal, which decreases measurement scattering and improves reliability. In the future, we’re also able to run very slowly and with very low web tension, which is needed with tissue papers. Also boards can be measured, up to 270 g/m2. The new, larger leading rollers prevent the board surface from cracking," Outi continues.

Also unwinding gets more flexible: both the inner and outer sides of the paper roll may be run as top side to the measurement. Nab Labs’ TAPIO profile meter measures the following: grammage, formation, thickness, ash, flock size, gloss ts/ws, transmission, remission (brightness), density and TPS (amount of printing ink).
